May 10, 2009: Day 9

Mt. Rogers Day today.... need I say more, may be I do. George climbed and climbed and climbed, since we are in the area of Rogers National Forest (Mt. Rogers is the highest peak in VA). On the upside of things, there were a lot of great downhills. Since roads were dry (Yes, first full day of no rain today), he was speeding through these downhills, at about 32 miles an hour. He did not really have to worry too much about cars as the speed limit is 25 mile/hr. There was one downhill that George did not have to paddle for 4 miles (I guess that really tells you how much he must have climbed to get that kind of downhill). Tomorrow's suppose to be a rest day.... first one. We are staying in Damascus, which is the only city that AT Hikers (which goes North/South and is about 2700 miles) and Trans AM bikers (they go East/West) meet. We met a few AT hikers here. I went for a 3 hour hike at the AT, at Rogers National Park. Beautiful, sunny, and fun day for both of us today.

We went from Wytheville, VA to Damascus, VA.
Stats for today: 59 mile, start time 7:00 am to 1:15.
